"For 21 years now, @theoceancollective have led their listeners entranced through a progressive maelstrom of sounds and monumental, thought-provoking concepts. Their two most recent albums, the epic double-whammy of 2018’s Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic and 2020’s Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic / Cenozoic, delved into the Phanerozoic Eon – examining the idea of Eternal Recurrence within the context of the history and evolution of life on Earth over the past 500 million years.⁠

Given that The Ocean are led by Robin Staps, who is also the founder of Pelagic Records, their performance at Roadburn Redux this year feels particularly significant. Fresh from a livestream in March where they performed Phanerozoic I in full, at Roadburn Redux The Ocean will be playing the sprawling follow-up Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic / Cenozoic in its entirety – presenting many of the songs from this album live for the very first time. Playing this sprawling release from the atmospheric setting of an old mill in North Germany, The Ocean’s Roadburn Redux set promises to be a special experience.⁠

Robin Staps says: “This will be the first time ever that we will be playing these tracks together for a crowd, and after releasing the album in the middle of the pandemic without being able to do all the things we would normally do, it feels like a big relief to do so. We couldn’t be more happy to watch this air on Roadburn screens as part of ‘Pelagic Presents’. This performance will be a rather intimate set-up compared to the Phanerozoic I livestream we did on March 25. No big production or stage: just the 6 of us in a nice room in the countryside.”⁠

"Attendees of Roadburn 2015 who witnessed @tombstonesoslo live may be keen to catch up with Ole Christian Helstad’s new(ish) band, @saeverofficial . They may be preparing for their split release with labelmates @psychonautband but still found time to head to the studio to record a little something for us to premiere at Roadburn Redux. Representing their part of the upcoming release, Sâver have recorded the track Dimensions Lost, Obscured By Aeons, captured live at Amper Tone Studios in Oslo.⁠

The band commented: “Amper Tone has been a safe haven for us during the pandemic and it feels both right, important, and necessary to document our new release with a classic live session from the studio in which the song was initially recorded. We are doing this together with our studio engineer and good friend Kim Lillestøl and we are eager to finally unleash this beast of a song for all the fellow Roadburners out there. We are stoked to take part in this year’s Redux edition. See you on the road!”⁠

"@psychonautband will release a split with labelmates @saeverofficial this year via Pelagic, which pushes the boundaries of the band in new directions. Relishing the challenge, they have recorded a playthrough video of their new 16 minutes single, The Great Realisation featuring some special guests. Picking up where their debut album Unfold the God Man left off in terms of concept, The Great Realisation forges ever-forward, showcasing the band at their gloriously long form, post-metal best.⁠

They told us: “This release is by far the most elaborate production we have ever done. We let go of all boundaries and gave ourselves complete freedom in terms of songwriting and arranging. This massive track represents a process of both personal and collective change that is conveyed through five chapters which are based on a psychedelic experience.”⁠

"Just to keep you on your toes, despite their moniker @oslotapes hail from Italy, and they produce a head-spinning take on avant-garde rock with a sprinkling of prog and a twist or two of psychedelic synths. Freshly signed to Pelagic Records with their first album for the label due to land this summer in the shape of the awe-inspiring ØR, we’re delighted to have Oslo Tapes on board for Roadburn Redux.⁠

They’ll be delivering a music video for a new track taken from ØR, but prepare yourself for something special. Of their new material Oslo Tapes mastermind Marco Campitelli told us: “This release represents a new way to express ourselves through composition and sound. The sound is intense and it talks to us all. Sometimes I can hear it whispering in my head some other times I feel it as a pit in my stomach. It’s like a mystic journey in space.”⁠

So begins our introduction to the unholy union of @lustmord and @karinparkofficial .⁠
⁠
Perhaps the work of Lustmord needs little introduction; although a refresher never hurts it rarely does justice. With an output that spans four decades and encompassing everything from film scores to early British industrial releases, this particular back catalogue defies categorisation in every conceivable way. Described by collaborator Karin Park, Lustmord “…is the Gustave Doré of music. Painting magical pictures with a sound that is so vast it gives space for your own imagination.”⁠

And Karin herself is no shrinking violet when it comes to ambitious creativity nor a stranger to collaboration. One half of the duo at the core of Årabrot, she explores the outer reaches of sex, death, and defiance with a flair that is as striking as it is captivating.⁠

And now, as the two join forces for an upcoming release titled Alter, we’re delighted to bring you an exclusive video of a track from that album as part of the Pelagic Presents showcase. Until then, you’ll have to let your imagination run wild as to what these two will concoct…⁠

"Few bands bring as much visceral intensity as @llnn.band , whose pummelling post-apocalyptic sonics are like the soundtrack to the end of the world.⁠

To let us in on their artistic process, LLNN will be presenting a special video at Roadburn Redux that invites us to witness the creation of the sonic universe that surrounds them. As the band explain, most of their evocative sound designs are carefully crafted by the band themselves.⁠
⁠
LLNN say: “A big part of the synth, sound design and soundscapes in LLNN are initially created by field recordings and afterwards by modulating the raw audio files in post-production. In this film we showcase the process from the sound recording to the final audio: a production that took place at a blacksmith using various industrial machines.⁠
⁠
“For instance, we recorded a metal cutting circular saw and afterwards in post-production transformed and modulated these harsh sounds to become eerie thematic synth-harmonies. As huge fans of classic sci-fi scores and video games, we’re fascinated by how cinematic sound design can evoke certain emotions and let our imagination unfold into abstract storytelling.”⁠
