Biography:

Meejah is a Danish-Korean band based in Copenhagen. The name Meejah refers to the idea of the artist being a ‘medium’ for the divine inspiration. The band takes influences from experimental, post-rock, post-metal, ambient, ethereal noise,  gritty trip hop, tibetan singing bowls and gongs, Korean pansori singing and shoegaze.

In 2024 Meejah recorded their KEXP Live Session in the legendary studio in Seattle.

Their debut album ‘Queen of Spring’ is centered around the 8 trigrams in Korean philosophy and taoism: Heaven – Thunder – Mountain – Earth – Wind – Fire & Water – Lake

The album interprets transnational identity, ancestry, loss & return. Nordic melancholia and Korean Han. ‘Queen of Spring’ was voted Best of 2021 by readers of Korean Indie and Meejah is nominated for the Danish Music Critics Award Steppeulven 2022 in the category: ‘Hope of the Year’.

In 2023 Meejah played their first tour in South Korea and The Korea Times wrote a portrait article “Meejah explores transnational roots”: www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/nation/2024/04/113_354130.html

In 2026, Meejah will collaborate on a split EP “INTERWOVEN” with Hiraki to be released via Pelagic Records. ‘INTERWOVEN’ is a four-track split EP that binds together two of Denmark’s most forward-thinking heavy acts: HIRAKI and Meejah. Built on a shared appetite for boundary-pushing intensity, the collaboration channels the urgency of electronic hardcore, the spaciousness of experimental rock, and the emotional depth of cinematic metal into an immersive work that is at once confrontational and deeply connective. Across these four tracks, both bands challenge each other to step past familiar contours, unraveling and recombining their musical identities until a new hybrid shape emerges—volatile, textured, and unmistakably alive.

Band members are Daniel Nayberg, Andreas Isbrandt Løvenskjold, Mai Soon Young Øvlisen. Live members are Asger Sørensen and Emil Lake.
