Biography:

Red Dwarf Star emerges as a striking new chapter for Coley Dennis, a new project that captures a deeply personal arc that spans continents, relationships, and creative reinvention. Dennis is known best for his work with MASERATI, a legendary outfit that leans into collaborative, rhythm-driven expanses rooted in krautrock and electronic psych. Through Red Dwarf Star Dennis’s lineage of influence is felt, echoing the raw emotional immediacy of ‘90s alternative, post-hardcore, and the textured atmospheres of jagged dream-pop that bleeds. These are sounds that have lingered in Dennis’s creative subconscious for decades, now resurfacing with renewed urgency.

The album is a reflection on the years following Dennis’ move from the United States to Switzerland in 2015, where he pursued a new life shaped by family, work and the quiet upheavals that accompany profound change. The dissociated haze of loss that runs along a pulse of tense emotion tells an intimate tale drenched in vibrant melancholia, a sense of loss, uncertainty, and introspection. In the woozy despair and raw power is a resilience and quiet resolve. One of the record’s defining pieces contemplates the unimaginable distance between a parent and their children, capturing the fragile line between memory and absence with stark clarity.

Despite its introspective origins, Red Dwarf Star is not intended to remain a solitary endeavor. What began as a personal outlet is evolving into a fully realised band, with a lineup assembled to bring these songs into a more expansive, dynamic setting. This shift signals not only a new phase for the project, but also a broader artistic trajectory. “Mathias Poese from the Leipzig post rock band Jeffk has been on board on guitar since the beginning of the live phase so he will be continuing with us as well as Blaise Brechbühl on bass formerly of Kruger and currently Orso out of Lausanne, CH. On drums I’ve enlisted Alessandro Pascolo from the Italian band LENORE”, says Dennis.

As a debut, this release functions as both an exciting starting point, whilst laying the groundwork for what comes next. In doing so, Red Dwarf Star captures the tension between isolation and collaboration, an elevated portrayal of an artist navigating change in real time and turning it into something resonant, immediate, and enduring.
