Description

Ahead of the release of their new album, Chinese experimental, instrumental post-rock band, Wang Wen will release a unique 4 x vinyl photo book of their collaborative performance with cinematographer Cheng Ran, limited to 500 copies worldwide.

Cheng Ran approached Wang Wen to provide the soundtrack to a nine hour film he was creating, and the band pushed themselves to the limits of their creativity when recording that soundtrack. The results, entitled In Course of the Miraculous will be released on 4 separate vinyl 10-inch EPs, packaged into a 55 – pages photo art book, and a DVD documenting the recording process. The 30 x 26 cm photo book comes with a leather binding and screw joints.

The original soundtrack was recorded inside an enormous warehouse which had been artificially flooded, and the band performed on a platform island. Xie Yugang of Wang Wen described the recording as “something we have always dreamt about doing”.

Wang Wen hail from Dalian, China and have been together for 17 years, releasing eight albums to date. The band were one of the first to have their albums released on vinyl in their home country and have been both pioneering and unwavering in their commitment to never compromise on their sound. The band have shared stages with the likes of Mono and Mogwai, and are continuously seeking out opportunities to take their experimental attitude to a wider artistic audience.

In Course of the Miraculous will be released on September 9 via Pelagic Records. Wang Wen’s next album, Sweet Home Go! will be released later in September, with more details to follow shortly.
